Sea Empress and Rainbow Warrior Display – National Maritime Museum
This permanent display brings together two powerful maritime stories: the 1996 Sea Empress oil spill off the coast of Wales and the 1985 bombing of Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior. The design frames these striking objects - a section of the Sea Empress’s hull and the binnacle from the Rainbow Warrior - within a narrative of environmental impact and activism.
Using sustainable, recycled materials such as recycled paper (Richlite) for plinth cladding and recycled plastics (Smile Plastics) for the graphic panels, the display reflects the museum’s commitment to telling urgent, contemporary stories through responsible design practice.
